Owing to the current restrictions imposed by local authorities due to the spread of Covid-19, issuance of passports will be done by the Embassy of India DIRECTLY and it will be restricted to only those cases needing it in emergency situations and only with a prior approval of the Embassy. All the applicants under the Consular Jurisdiction of the Embassy of India (those living in Bermuda, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia) who need to renew their passports under compelling circumstances should email their passport particulars and the need for a renewal of passport to attcons1.washington@mea.gov.in Subsequent process will be communicated to them by email.

CKGS has been awarded the Indian Passport Application Services for the Embassy of India and its Consulates in USA with effect 5 May 2016.

Do not go directly to the Government of India website to fill the online application. You must go via the links on the CKGS website provided below. You will be guided to the Government of India website to fill your online form/s at the appropriate step via the CKGS website.

For USA applicants, the CKGS website has been customized so that the supplementary documents, forms are as per the requirements of the Embassy of India in USA.

The CKGS website will identify your passport category, type, duration, fees and help avoid errors. To assist you, further many forms and letters that have repetitive information will get auto populated and you only have to fill in the missing fields.

TATKAAL Passport Services

TATKAAL’ Passport Service is an ‘Emergency’ Passport Service. All applicants (except below mentioned categories) residing in the Jurisdiction of Embassy of India, Washington DC and having valid Passport and Valid Visa Status (i.e. Visa Page/EAD/Green Card/I – 797 etc.) are eligible to apply for re-issue of Passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.

Following Category of applicants can not apply under Tatkaal Passport Scheme:

a). Passports Lost/ Stolen /Damaged beyond recognition

b). Renewal of Short Validity Passport (SVP)

c). Major Change in Name (cases different from minor change case)

d). Change in Sex

e). Change of Appearance

f). Change/ Correction of DoB

g). Change/ Correction of Place of birth

h). Change in Signature

Global Entry Program (GEP) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for Indian Citizens

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select U.S. airports .

How to Apply for Global Entry:

Citizens of India are eligible for Global Entry. Applications must be submitted through CBP’s Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website.

Application Process for background check for GEP:

1.Apply Online with US CBP: Apply and complete application process at TTP website https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry of US CBP.

2. For the applicant presently living in USA , after completion of step ‘1’, he/she needs to submit the requisite information in the website of Global Passport Seva Project ( https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in/ ) for completion of background check in India. After completion of online submission, he/she should submit the application at CKGS office according to the Consular jurisdiction, along with the applicable fee of US$ 25 (and CKGS charges of US$ 19.95 and US$ 2 as Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF)) and required original documents.

It is informed that VFS Global is the service provider for Passport services for the Embassy of India, Washington DC or its Consulates in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New York and San Francisco. Its operations have started from 04 November 2020.

All the applicants under the Consular Jurisdiction of the Embassy of India (those living in Bermuda, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia) seeking passport services may visit the link https://services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/apply-passport for details.

Apart from the applicable Government of India Passport fees, the applicants will also be required to pay US$ 15.90 as service charge to VFS Global and US$ 2 as contribution to Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF).
